Asking for your help...
Since July I’ve been working at a massage clinic just outside of Denver, where I’ve had a chance to work with many people with different needs and relationships with massage and their own bodies. In many ways it’s been an incredibly fulfilling experience; I feel my capacity as a human—to listen, respond, and feel—has expanded in ways that support me in turn. In other ways, mainly related to the decrepitude of my own body, it hasn’t been very supportive and, in the long run, isn’t physically sustainable for me. I’ll be leaving that job very soon. I’m in the process of applying for other (non-massage) jobs, which I’m optimistic will eventually yield something good. But there’s some financial anxiety in the meanwhile…
My point in telling you, through this social-media-adjacent channel, all this, is that for the time being I’d like to expand the work I’m doing through Bodykind, my own small practice. Working for someone else’s massage business, I haven’t had the capacity to put much energy into promoting my own approach to massage (myofascial, with some energy and lymph work as needed). This approach is slow, deep work that is more sustainable for me physically as a massage therapist, and I believe (from what I’ve seen in clients and felt for myself) it’s also very effective for helping the fascia to reorganize to be more supportive over time of movement and organs. I’ve had very positive feedback from people I’ve worked with.
I’m in Denver, though, so while this message may spread far beyond where I am, my hope is that it reaches those who are in close proximity and who would like to book a session or two with me. I work on a sliding scale for those who find themselves needing support but who don’t have big financial means; otherwise, if your money anxieties are relatively minimal right now, my regular rates are $75/hr for 60 minutes, $105 for 90 minutes, $135 for 2 hours. I charge a $15 travel fee if I come to you with my table, or you can come to me. My small apartment is cozy and plant-filled. A session here will include incense, chill music, cupping (if desired), and big plant energy.
I’d really appreciate if you could share this with anyone you know who might be interested <3
And I’m still here as a writer and reader and editor, working part-time for a publisher and finding my way back to my own way of putting words on screens and pages. I was recently asked by a friend to do a manuscript consultation, which I hadn’t done in a while. But the work reminded me how much I love engaging closely with writers and their words and line breaks and wide open spaces. If you’re interested in a manuscript consultation or feedback on another project, know that I’d love to work with you.
Also, I have these copies of The Aleatory Abyss, a short book/long essay I wrote a few years ago during a differently abyssal time. If you’re interested in buying a copy, it would mean a lot to me. Pay what you can beyond the cost of shipping. Reach out and I’ll send you my payment details.
And, I dunno, anyone interested in buying this sweet leather getup?? Handmade by Carlos of CJ’s Leather in Denver. One decorative strap in the back has come unriveted, but it’s otherwise in very good condition. Carlos is an artist whose medium is leather! If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll send more information.
